Living Healthy - West Pres - Long Life Health

It is often thought that a lifestyle based on the use of organic products has to do exclusively with the consumption of fruit and vegetables. That’s not really the case, and today we’ll explain why “living organic” means making a series of conscious choices that affect different areas of our daily lives: from food to home cleaning, from the use of household products made according to particular criteria to cosmetics or eco-sustainable clothing.

Finally, we will explain how to make holidays aware and environmentally friendly, thanks to numerous initiatives of responsible tourism and organic tourism. But let’s go in order, starting with the first, simple steps that each of us can take.

The first step in a healthy lifestyle: the balance between body and mind

Living healthy means many things, but above all it means choosing to live in a simple way. What does it mean? According to an interesting article by the Humanitas Foundation, healthy living begins when you stop smoking, eat healthy products – possibly certified organic fruit, we add – and exercise regularly to suit your body’s needs. This is a good start for all those who want to reduce their risk of getting sick.

In particular, proper nutrition is easier than expected and essentially means:

  • Cooking and storing food properly
  • pay attention to product labels, so as to avoid preservatives and other substances that may be harmful
  • eating healthy and in a varied way, with particular attention to fruits and vegetables
  • don’t exaggerate: weight and health would be affected
  • exercise, which helps us to combat the accumulation of fat mass and instead promotes the development of muscle mass, much healthier
  • no smoking
  • Doing sport in a balanced way, because it is good for psychophysical health and improves metabolism. It only takes 30 minutes a day to enjoy important health benefits almost immediately.
  • try not to lead a sedentary life

To this brief but important vademecum we would like to add other suggestions that closely concern another type of health: the emotional one. Many disciplines help us in this area, including yoga or meditation, which today’s medicine has widely recognized as a great help for:

  • Prevent negative emotions, the door of anxiety and depression
  • combat occupational and personal stress
  • improve concentration and memory
  • improve interpersonal relationships, because they can increase our degree of empathy towards others
  • to know each other better, which never hurts
  • to increase the ability to react physically and psychologically to physical and emotional pain
  • increase productivity at work, which can however help those who carry out particularly technical, demanding or close contact jobs with people, and therefore is at risk of burning out

Yoga, meditation, moreover, is an excellent workout for our mind. It allows us to manage our energies more carefully, helps us to deal with emotions and to feel less detached from others.

Having made this necessary premise on what it means to live in a healthy way from all major points of view, we move on to analyze specifically how it is possible to adopt a lifestyle based on organic.

Organic nutrition: what it is and why it is good for your health

Let’s start by saying that organic food does not contain synthetic chemicals or pesticides, which, as we have already written, cause a lot of damage to the human body. It is now confirmed, in fact, that the consumption of certified organic food causes a decrease in the risk of allergies, food problems and other risks – some even fatal – to human health.

Furthermore, there are no GMOs in organic products, the effects of which on the organism have yet to be clarified, while everything that is used for the cultivation of organic fruit or the rearing of animals is strictly natural. The competent authorities have drawn up a list of permitted substances to which all organic farmers or breeders wishing to certify their products must be subject.

Organic food is produced without chemicals. It does not enclose animals in intensive farming. It respects the rhythm of the Earth and its products are strictly controlled, in the full interest of the consumer and health. Finally, it is traceable: that is, at any time it is possible to reconstruct the production chain – and therefore always know what we are eating – thanks to a very precise identification system.

Organic food costs a little more, it is true, but it gives a lot in terms of health benefits. Their taste is fuller and more natural, they are controlled, their production does not waste raw materials, they defend biodiversity and they have a lower environmental impact.

When we eat organic food we are taking care of our health, because:

  • We are ingesting healthy food, rich in nutrients essential to our lives.
  • we are defending agricultural biodiversity together with hundreds of organic farmers
  • we are eating healthy products, “sons” of a short food chain
  • we are taking products that help our metabolism and immune defenses.

Finally, organic food ensures that toxins are not deposited in the body and helps to dispose of those already released into the body. It accelerates healing because it stimulates tissue renewal. In addition, it protects us from seasonal illnesses, is a restorative and – if we want to put it bluntly – has surprising anti-ageing effects. Healthy, young and beautiful. What more could you want?

Doing house cleaning using organic products

We said about the food, we’re going to clean the house now. Yes, because there are dozens of organic products and environmentally friendly detergents on the market. We recommend that you use them because they allow you to have a clean house without compromising the environment and our health.

Recognizing them is easy because on the packaging we find the Ecolabel symbol, a specific EU label that certifies products made with the utmost attention to the environment: we are talking about biodegradable products, that do not damage our skin, without those surfactants (the principle that a detergent has a cleaning power) that destroy groundwater and pollute the seas, rivers and lakes.

The advantages of using organic products for home cleaning are obvious, as domestic pollution has now reached alarming proportions: irritated skin, watery eyes, irritated throat, or annoying migraines or disorders of nervous origin. But also allergies, immune system problems, intolerance, asthma and neoplasms, just so we don’t miss anything.

The house can become a hostile and harmful place and, according to various scientific studies, this also depends on formaldehyde, benzene, particulates and nitrogen dioxide contained in many non-biological products commonly used to clean environments and surfaces. If we multiply their effect between the four walls of the home for all the houses that are polished daily, we have a small idea of the risks that aggressive chemical detergents pose to human health and the ecosystem as a whole.

On the contrary, hot water, vinegar and bicarbonate are enough to keep your home clean and avoid getting sick. Bicarbonate is an excellent detergent and disinfectant, it is also good for clothes and, if we want, together with lemon can be used to remove unpleasant odors.

Vinegar is a natural anti-scale, as long as it is not used on calcareous surfaces such as marble. In other cases, it is better to dilute it in water, precisely because its action is very strong. As for lemon, it is a product that is suitable for all situations: it eliminates incrustations, fights limescale, is great for shining dishes and dishes and can also be used as a natural softener.

Do you want to perfume your home, studio or car instead? Nothing better than essential oils: citrus, lavender, tea tree, sage, eucalyptus, carnation, cinnamon or rose. These are our favorites, but be careful that you can find at least one more hundred in the herbalist shop.
